Radix IoT: Interview With Co-Founder Michael Skurla About The Real-Time Visibility And Data Insights Company

In a recent interview with Pulse 2.0, co-founder Michael Skurla talked to Amit Chowdhry about where Radix IoT came from, what sets the Mango solution apart from others, and more.

Radix IoT is a software/IoT company whose mission is to unify disparate systems, equipment, and infrastructure by providing actionable, real-time data insights and analytics for organizations with distributed assets and critical operations. Pulse 2.0 interviewed Radix co-founder Michael Skurla to gain a deeper understanding of the company.

Formation Of The Company

How did the idea for the company come together? Skurla said:

“The spark for Radix IoT was simple: the Internet of Things promised a smarter, more connected world, but in reality, most organizations were left wrangling a mess of devices, vendors, and data silos. Yes, there was lots of data from devices, but making it work together to drive any meaningful results was baffling. The commercial world was really lost in great ideas, and honestly, really great technology, but none of it really worked together to drive ‘outcomes.’ The bigger issue was that many proprietary, vendor-specific ecosystems out there were one-trick ponies, so there was a ton of useful data from various locations and manufacturers, but no solution could bring it all together and make sense of it. The result? Disjointed architectures, incompatible systems, and a mountain of raw data that was anything but actionable in commercial buildings.”

“At the same time, many companies were trying to invest in business intelligence (BI) to improve operations – but the lack of a unified dataset was a serious problem. Even the most advanced analytics are useless if you can’t access clear, unified, and readable data. That’s the problem Radix IoT set out to solve, making data collection and normalization seamless for commercial organizations so they could finally unlock the real value of data they already had in existing systems, while also giving these organizations a path forward to integrate the ever-expanding world of ‘connected devices. ‘”

Core Products

What are the company’s core products and features? Skurla explained:

“At the heart of Radix IoT’s offering is Mango, a flexible, profoundly intuitive, future-focused, and sustainable industry-agnostic IoT cloud-native platform that provides real-time visibility and data insights for more cohesive operations management. Mango unifies data from across all connected sources (regardless of their brand or generation of equipment)—whether it’s in an office building, a data center, or a water utility—into a single, holistic platform. Mango was designed, from the start, to be easy to commission, simple to operate, and a breeze to customize.”

“So, it’s no secret that there are systems that have collected data in buildings/facilities for years (Think BMS and SCADA). Mango, however, took a much different approach. Mango I.T.’s first philosophy was designed to meet modern security needs in critical infrastructure– something legacy SCADA and BMS have struggled with. Additionally, Mago was designed to allow for geographically distributed locations to work together. Our customers commonly use Mango to consolidate and utilize data from tens of thousands of locations; all this real-time, accurate, and dependable data empowers enterprises to make informed decisions, boost operational efficiency, and minimize surprises.”

“A key differentiator of  Mango is the vendor-agnostic approach. There is very little RIO for many building systems to be replaced if they are working. Mango empowers customers to keep what works, but leverage their existing infrastructure, and installed equipment to get a unified, powerful view of their whole global operation to cut downtime, and get the analytics and ‘outcomes’ they are looking for whether that is energy savings, preventative maintenance, compliance information, ESG reporting, or simply be more responsive to real-time problems.”

Evolution Of The Company’s Technology

How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Skurla noted:

“When Radix IoT first started, the challenge was simply getting data out of disparate, legacy systems. Protocols and the ability to securely backhaul information from the Edge to the Cloud posed real challenges – this was especially challenging and expensive for clients that deal in multi-site operations. Over time, our focus shifted to scale and resilience. Today, Mango can support deployments from a single site to tens of thousands of globally distributed sites, without massive overhauls or rip-and-replace headaches.”

“Beyond Mango’s key competency data collection and organization from a wide range of commercial telemetry devices, Mango has built-in, robust remote monitoring, diagnostics, and alarming capabilities – as well as an API that allows integration of many common third-party tools, like Salesforce and Service Now.”

“The Mango platform is now used across 4 continents, polling 20Million real-time datapoints worldwide, supporting everything from global hyperscale data centers to water utilities in South Africa. That kind of scale and reliability didn’t happen overnight. Nor was it by accident. We wanted to address the complexity of high resilience at scale from the start, and we built up to this point with a foundational base.”

Customer Success Stories

When asking Skurla about customer success stories, he highlighted:

One of my favorite stories is our work with Silulumanzi Water Authority in Mbombela, South Africa. They needed to deliver safe drinking water to 450,000 residents and improve water conservation. Using Mango, they unified real-time data from legacy SCADA systems, enabling internal teams and municipalities to access actionable insights from anywhere. The result? More efficient operations, better conservation, and a real impact on people’s lives. It’s projects like these—where technology directly improves quality of life—that remind me why we do what we do. Sure, we have many commercial customers, and that drives our innovation, but Silulumanzi is one of several dozen projects that just make you realize how our technology solution is having a social impact and how something good results from all this. Given that we also allow our software to be downloaded for free and used in small applications, it’s also fun to learn sometimes where the product has excelled. We had no idea we were monitoring some volcanoes in New Zealand. It is a testament to what Radix IoT has developed and created.”

Differentiation From The Competition

What differentiates Radix IoT from its competition? Skurla affirmed:

“Our biggest differentiator is our focus on resilience at scale, data privacy, and sheer flexibility. We don’t force customers to throw away what works; instead, we help them unify and optimize their existing investments. Our platform is hardware- and vendor-agnostic, and designed to coexist with legacy systems and new technologies. We provide a single source of truth, real-time insights, and role-specific dashboards—so every team and stakeholder gets exactly what they need, without wading through irrelevant data. And we do all this with a relentless commitment to simplicity. In a space notorious for complexity and the need for multiple software/hardware systems, Radix IoT focuses on keeping our offering simple and actionable. That’s why it’s the preferred platform for global critical infrastructure enterprises.”

Future Company Goals

What are some of the company’s future goals? Skurla concluded:

“Our north star is ‘simple’. That might sound, well, simple—but in commercial IoT, where you have zero control over the devices at the edge, it’s a massive challenge. One universal pain point is the initial setup and configuration of complex environments. We’ve made great strides in that area, but we’re not done.  People don’t want to be experts in IT, OT, protocols, or cloud storage—they want results, and they want it fast. That’s what we’re driving toward: making IoT and AI accessible, actionable, and, above all, easy to deploy for everyone.”

“What’s more, data centers hosting AI applications are now heavily relying on Mango DCIM to monitor power demand and improve the latency of their data feeds. As we know, the key to success in enabling any practical AI solution is data. Many people don’t think about this, but it’s becoming a necessity as AI enters the picture. Selecting data aggregation solutions that provide real-time access and have a historical context to relevant and critical data from all connected systems, equipment, and sensors, is essential for actionable analytics. Bridging data sources and AI systems solves data integration problems across multiple protocols, formats, and data storage separations, and provides highly informed and reliable AI response.”

“Radix IoT exists because the world needs a better way to make sense of all the connected data flowing out of complex devices, equipment, and systems. We’re proud to be the backbone for organizations that want to move from chaos to clarity in the transformative digital age.”
