How to Export Data from Watch Lists (CSV and JSON)

Export real-time and historical data from Mango by Radix IoT watch lists as CSV or JSON for offline analysis, compliance records, or integration with other tools.

Overview

Watch lists show real-time data in a tabular format. When you need that data offline — for a spreadsheet analysis, a compliance report, or to share with someone without Mango by Radix IoT access — export it. Watch lists and Bulk Data Point Edit both export to CSV and JSON directly from the browser. Neither exports to Excel — for a formatted .xlsx workbook, use Excel Reports instead (see How to Build Excel Report Templates with Named Ranges), which is a separate feature built for that.

Exporting from the Watch List Page

  1. Navigate to your watch list
  2. Verify the points displayed are the ones you want to export, and set the time range with the date control if you need historical data
  3. Click the Download button (download icon) in the toolbar — it opens the download dialog directly, there is no separate "Export" button
  4. Pick a tab:
    • Historical — logged data over your chosen time range, with a rollup type available for long ranges
    • Realtime — current values only
  5. Choose which points to include — checked points only, all points on the list, or reliable/unreliable points only — and set the timezone and time format
  6. Click a format button to download immediately. On the Historical tab: CSV (single value column), CSV (separate value columns), JSON (separate arrays), or JSON (combined array). On Realtime: CSV or JSON. Each format button starts its own download — there is no separate "Download" click after choosing one

Export Options

The download dialog's two tabs cover the two kinds of export:

TabDescription
RealtimeSnapshot of the current value for each selected point, as CSV or JSON
HistoricalAll logged values within your chosen time range, raw or aggregated with a rollup type (e.g., hourly average) for long ranges

On either tab, the point-selection radio buttons decide which rows go into the file: checked points only, every point on the list, or points currently marked reliable or unreliable.

Exporting from Bulk Data Point Edit

Bulk Data Point Edit's export is a different kind of export from the watch list's: it downloads the selected points' configuration as CSV — XID, name, data source, tags, and the rest of a point's setup — not their logged or current values, and not on a time range. It is built for bulk editing offline and re-importing, or for backing up a point set's configuration, not for pulling historical data.

  1. Navigate to Data integration → Bulk data point edit
  2. Filter by tags, data source, or search text to narrow the point list
  3. Use Select columns first if you want the download to carry specific configuration fields
  4. Select points with checkboxes, or use the select all control to take the whole filtered set
  5. Open the download menu and choose what to download as CSV: Data points, Data points and related data, or Event detectors

If you need the points' logged or current values rather than their configuration, use the watch list's Download dialog above instead — Bulk Data Point Edit has no equivalent for that.

Exporting via REST API

For automated or scripted exports, use the REST API:

# Export point values as JSON
GET /rest/latest/point-values/time-period/{xid}?from=2024-01-01T00:00:00&to=2024-01-02T00:00:00
# Export with rollup (hourly averages)
GET /rest/latest/point-values/time-period/{xid}/AVERAGE?from=2024-01-01T00:00:00&to=2024-01-02T00:00:00&timePeriodType=HOURS&timePeriods=1
# Export multiple points
POST /rest/latest/point-values/multiple-arrays/time-period
{
  "xids": ["DP_RTU_01_TEMP", "DP_RTU_02_TEMP"],
  "from": "2024-01-01T00:00:00",
  "to": "2024-01-02T00:00:00"
}

Tips for Clean Exports

  • Use rollups for long time ranges — exporting every 5-second sample for a year produces millions of rows. Use hourly or daily rollups instead
  • Filter before exporting — export only the points you need, not the entire watch list
  • Include timestamps — always export with timestamps for traceability
  • Check time zones — the download dialog's Time zone starts on User: the time zone set on your user profile, or the server's if you have not set one. Switch it to Server or UTC if your reporting requires it

Common Use Cases

Use CaseRecommended FormatRecommended Range
Send data to a coworkerCSV (opens in Excel)Last 24 hours, current values
Compliance recordCSV (archival)Full reporting period, all data
Feed into Python/R analysisCSV or JSONCustom range, raw or rollup
Integration with another systemJSON via REST APIAutomated, scheduled

Summary

Watch list and data point table exports give you quick access to Mango data as CSV or JSON. For a formatted Excel workbook, use Excel Reports. For one-time exports, use the UI. For recurring or automated exports, use the REST API. Always use rollups for long time ranges to keep file sizes manageable.
